| January 30, 2015

Botswana Table Tennis Association (BTTA) will this weekend host an open tournament at the BNYC Hall in Gaborone.

The tournament, which will run from anuary 31 to February 1, is expected to attract players from all corners of the country. The tournament is the first ranking tournament of the year in the BTTA calendar, which consists of nine ranking tournaments.

Also, the 2015 rankings would be a qualification to the 2016 BTTA premier league which consists of top eight players from both male and female categories. In an interview, BTTA competitions secretary, Kudzanani Motswagole, said the tournament will be used as a forum to identify top class players.

“It is used to measure the success of players and we select our national team players from open tournaments like these,” he said. However, he said they would have wanted foreign players to compete since it is an open tournament, but the problem is that there is no sponsor.

Motswagole added that the tournament will be divided into senior and junior categories, and as such everyone is invited to participate. “We want to give everyone a chance to play,” he said.
