Adansonia Stages Miss Tertiary Francistown

| April 29, 2015

Adansonia Hotel will host the first ever Miss Tertiary Francistown pageant in Francistown on Saturday. The event is the brainchild of Neo Thuma, who is a third year business management student at Francistown’s ABM College.

Thuma told BOPA in an interview that the need to inspire the spirit of togetherness amongst different tertiary schools in the country’s second city drove her to come up with the concept. “Another important reason is to address issues facing tertiary students, such as drug and alcohol abuse in a friendly environment we also want to use the platform to familiarise ourselves with the world of show business,” she added.

Thuma also said it would be the first red carpet event ever to be hosted in Francistown because such events are usually hosted in Gaborone.

“It is time to break the norm and bring such glitz and glamour events here,” she said, asserting that obstacles such as financial constraints and the disappointment of last minute withdrawals by some of the targeted institutions would not stop them from realising their dream.

Gomotsego Phakedi, who is also part of the organising team and also a third year business management student at ABM, said they were expecting many people more especially because the event involves competition between beauties from different institutions.

Twelve participants from Botswana Accountancy College, ABM, GIPS, Francistown Technical College, and IDM, are expected to battle it out for this year’s crown.

“I therefore urge people out there to buy tickets for P50 from the participating schools,” said Phakedi.

Great performances from the likes of Chrome, Flexyville, Missionary Christian, The Defination, Core, Sk, Felly Blaker, DJ Memk and DJ Phat Tee, are expected, according to another member of the organising committee, Mompoloki Jeremiah.

Jeremiah said they also expect a motivational speech by specially elected councillor Andy Boatile, and that people should dress smart casual for the red carpet event.

He assured participants that Bright Spark Security Services will be there to provide tight security for free to ensure people’s safety he also thanked the Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture for sponsoring awards, as well as Adansonia Hotel for their free conference facilities.

Pula Power, a BTV entertainment show will cover the event, which is expected to start at 6pm till late hours this will be the most effective way to spend the long weekend in a glamorous and laidback way.
