Microsoft business and development manager (NamibiaBotswana), Ms Katlego Arnone, has applauded women who have shown great innovations and ventured into the ICT world.

Ms Arnone cherished women during the celebrations of Girls in ICT day by Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) and its stakeholders in Ghanzi on Saturday (May 16).

A girl child in Botswana, she said, should be grateful to the opportunity they had been given to attend school and learn because in some countries girls had been denied such opportunities and were given to the boy child.

For her part, Ms Itumeleng Botshelo of Botswana Fibre Networks (Bofinet) encouraged girls to develop a positive attitude and claim their positions in the male dominated careers.

She said with a positive attitude, they could overcome challenges that come with working in a male dominated career.

Ms Botshelo implored female students to apply the right attitude and positive thinking in order to make it in the ICT careers.

Meanwhile, Ms Mercy Ntolongo of Department of Information Technology said the celebrations are a global effort to encourage young girls to venture into ICT careers.

She said it was time now that the girl child and women do away with the mentality that certain careers were for men only.
