Team Nigeria footballers sent out a warning signal to other contenders in the African Youth Games which started yesterday in Gabrone, Botswana by forcing two bitter goals down the throat of the hosts.

Two strikes from supporting striker Nasifi Yahaya, in the 4th and 90th minutes of the game ensured that the coach Danladi Nasidi led side silenced the huge crowed at the Botswana National stadium.

Nigeria had a commanding control of the game that even Botswana fans could not help but to appreciate the beautiful artistry of the Nigerian lads.

Football was one of the sports that kick-started the Games yesterday with about 2,500 athletes from 54 countries participating.

In the day’s other game, South Africa played a 3-3 draw with Swaziland.

Meanwhile, President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engr Sani M Ndanusa and Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon Gbenga Elegbeleye have commended the Nigerian football team for their fine opening on a winning note but reminded them that they must not relax until the win the prestigious gold.

Ndanusa and Elegbeleye also visited the athletes village where they charged the team to go all out for medals. “We’re not here to play second fiddle. You must go all out for medals in all your events”, Ndanusa said while Elegbeleye reminded them to be disciplined and not to do anything that would bring Nigeria’s name to disrepute.
