BDC Engages 17 Law Firms

Botswana Development Corporation engaged 17 law firms in the last five years.

Responding to a question in Parliament on March 31 the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Vincent Seretse said a total of P12 213 104.47 was paid to these law firms from 2009 to 2014.

He stated that the firms were identified and appointed in accordance with the industry practice of setting up a panel of lawyers.Minister Seretse said the panel is normally established through the submission of unsolicited proposals from law firms. “In the interest of objectivity and fair distribution of instructions, the constitution of the panel is reviewed periodically,” he said.

The Member of Parliament for Gabane Mmankgodi, Major General Pius Mokgware had asked the minister to state the law firms engaged by Botswana Development Corporation during the last five years.MP Mokgware also wanted to know the amount paid to those firms as well as the criteria that was used to select the law firms.
