Big Sisters Shock Double Action

Big Sisters shocked Double Action with a 2-1 victory in the Women’s football league game played at Bosele Primary School in Gaborone on April 25.

Fresh from a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Township Rollers, Big Sisters redeemed their pride by beating one of the most feared teams in the women’s super league.

It was a sweet victory for ‘Biggie’ given that since 2010, they had never conquered the most decorated Double Action however, the Saturday encounter proved that they had prepared well for the game.

The game started with a high tempo, with Double Action failing to convert most of their scoring opportunities, and five minutes into the game, Thuto Ramafifi received a good cross from captain Bonang ‘Bebeto’ Otlhagile but failed to bury it after beating the goal keeper hands down.

Double Action who played with 10 players on the field continued to pile more pressure on Biggie, and on the 15th minute, they won a corner kick, which was well taken by Ramafifi but Big Sisters’ goalkeeper Marylin John, who was a marvel to watch stopped it.

Double Action continued to squander their opportunities and the lack of composure inside the box cost Onkabetse Saseng on the 24th minute who ballooned the ball just in front of the box after doing all the good work she.

A minute after that, Marylin John rose to the occasion and denied Ramafifi what could have been a first goal for Double Action.

As the game progressed Big Sister, whose game plan was to seat at the back and at least catch their opponents on counter attack, started to attack and on the 39th minute, Wampona Kaisara failed to put more power on the ball to finish with Double Action goalkeeper, who seemed to be on holiday for the entire 30 minutes of the game.

The game went into recess with the score board reading 0-0, but after half time ‘Biggie’ approached the game with different tactics since they denied their opponents to toss the ball around and on the 51st minute they managed to score their first goal through Moitshepi Ntshabele.

However their celebration was short lived because a minute after their goal Dikatlholo Modise equalised from outside the eighteenth area, to make it 1-1.

Clearly the goal rubbed ‘Biggie’ the wrong way as they continued to move forward looking for a winning goal and 20 minutes before full time Goabaone Bareetseng scored the second goal after a blunder from the opponents’ keeper to make it 2-1.

After the game, Double Action coach Agreement Podi said complacency cost his team because they knew they were playing against a team that had never given them a problem.

He said Big Sisters were avoiding relegation therefore he knew they would come g, adding that he was also playing with only 10 players on the field after sending one of his player home due to lack of discipline.

The winning coach, Keeineetse Madisa said it was a sweet victory because since their arrival in the Super League they had never emerged victorious against Double Action which has a pool of players in the national team.

He said, he told his player before the game not to be under unnecessary pressure but to go out and enjoy themselves but they should utilisee every opportunity that might come to their disposal.

In other games played on Saturday, South East were beaten 1-0 by UB kicks Mexican Girls won 2-1 against Untouchable Prisons and Meat Girls shared the spoils by playing a one all draw Kanye Swallows increased Vicomates’ woes by beating them 2-0 while Township Rollers cemented their control of the league log by beating Makufa 1-0

This therefore means that Rollers have 47 points followed by Double Action with 43 points on position three is Prisons with 39, followed by Meat Girls with 38 points.
