Bowlers Celebrate National Lawn Bowls Champs

Selebi Phikwe Bowling Club in association with Botswana Bowling Association (BBA) has been hosting a week-long bowling tournament that started on May 9, to mark the 40th anniversary of the national lawn bowls championships.

President of BBA, Kitso Robert said the year 2015 was a special one, which required special performance as it will give partakers an opportunity to compete in the world championships scheduled for Cyprus in NovemberDecember 2015.

He also said team Botswana will also compete at two international championships billed for Lusaka in September this year.

Robert further extended his special thanks to Botswana National Sports Council , National Champions Sponsor, chairpersons of all bowling clubs and Phikwe Bowls Club for the effort put forward in making the bowling tournament a success.

He also indicated that the national championships held in Selebi Phikwe remain the most prestigious event in Botswana Bowling calendar as it gives all participants an opportunity to be national heroes.

Oabona Motlaadiile, the chairperson of Phikwe Bowls Club said it was a great honour for the club to host the tournament, adding that he felt privileged for Selebi Phikwe to be the host of the national championships which shows confidence in the Phikwe Bowls Club to host an event of such magnitude.

He continued to state that the tournament would leave a fond and lasting memory and acknowledged the club members for their hard work and dedication to achieve the milestone of hosting the best event ever in the club.

The tournament is scheduled to end this weekend . It started with an opening match of men’s and ladies’ fours.

The participating teams are Selebi Phikwe, Francistown, Gaborone, Orapa and Jwaneng. The main partner in the tournament is Bangwato Toyota. BOKHUTLO
