Bridge Federation Prepares for Zonal Champs

The Botswana Bridge Federation will this weekend select a national team for next month’s African Bridge Federation (ABF) Zonal Championships billed for Egypt.

The selection would be done during a pairs tournament at the Botswana National Sports Commission on Sunday (April 12).

The federation’s spokesperson, Mbakisi Malilo explained that 10 pairs of players that aanced from last month’s qualifying tournament would compete against each other for six berths in the national team.

“The pairs will play against each other and we would take the aggregate of results from the last tournament and the weekend one to select the top three pairs that will make the team,” Malilo stated.

The pairs would include the Alison Davis and Gwithie Kirby combination which leads the way going into the weekend event with 292 points, followed by Prince Ramoseki and Mbakisi Malilo with 261.

There would also be Meshack Kgosidialwa and Glod Maele who have 257 points, Keagile Chamu and Letsogile Mafa with 253, Sean John and Phenyo Molelwane with 271 as well as Batsho Manyanda and Modisaotsile Dikgang.

Other pairs are Brian Ntshekisang and Baba Khao, Keeditse Maitemoki and Mogotsi Mafoko, Mbatsi Joel and Braviton Ncube and Letso Cedric and Mogomotsi Bagasi. Malilo said their federation so far does not have the identity of other African countries that would play at the championships.

“There is no list of the registered countries so far but on the previous championships there were six countries. The countries that were there were Botswana, Egypt, Reunion, South Africa, Kenya and Madagascar,” Malilo said.

The championships would be held from 8-13 May.
