Chinese Business Community Donates

The maxim “when in Rome do as the Romans do”, sprang to life on May 13, when the Chinese community doing business in Kanye donated 134 blankets, comforters and clothing to orphans in Mmamokhasi, Ruele and Kgwatlheng wards in the village.

Councillor Thapelo Pelekekae of Nyorosi West said the noble gesture added credence to the pillar of a compassionate, just and caring nation espoused in the national vision which he said was primarily about meeting the needs of others.

“The donation will surely go a long way in addressing societal discrepancies. It is my wish that your businesses will blossom so that you may continue to help the less privileged,” he said.

Chinese community representative, Mr Jack Liu said he and his colleagues were humbled by the opportunity given to them to meet the needs of the less privileged among the society.

“We are hopeful that these blankets will come handy as winter is fast approaching,” he said and thanked everyone for their patience saying the donation has been postponed once due to foreseen circumstances.

The gesture he believed paved way for a cordial and fruitful relationship between the Chinese business community trading in Kanye and the village populace.

Mmamokhasi ward headman, Mr Obusitswe Solomon who was instrumental in soliciting the assistance commended the donors for having jumped at the opportunity to better the lives of fellow human beings.

Giving a word of appreciation, Ms Segojame Motlhabanyane commended in particular the able leadership of Mr Solomon which she wished many may take leave from and better the lives of the people they lead.

Kgosi Malope II who graced the occasion handed out certificates of appreciation to the eight companies that made up the Chinese business community that gave blankets.
