’Choppies Does Not Produce Goods Internally ‘

Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Vincent Seretse, has told Parliament that Choppies chain stores that comprises of 72 outlets in Botswana does not produce any goods internally.

Minister Seretse informed the house that Choppies was a retail supermarket that did not produce goods locally adding that products sold in these outlets across the country were bought from third parties locally and outside the country.

Mr Seretse said he could not disclose the owners of the outlets rented by Choppies as well as the monthly rentals of each property rented on account of the fact that the agreements were contractual, personal, private and confidential business information which involves third parties

He was responding to Ghanzi North MP Mr Noah Salakae who had wanted to know the number of Choppies outlets in Botswana, owners of properties rented by Choppies, the monthly rentals of each property as well as the value of goods produced internally and those purchased from various supplies.
