´╗┐Cinderella Adaptation to Delight Theatre Enthusiasts

| June 5, 2015

A stage adaptation of the Cinderella fairy tale by the Head of Drama at Maru-A-Pula School, Clayton Ndlovu, is set to thrill theatre lovers in June when it premieres.

Titled Kurana, the work will be brought to life by students of the school with Mr Ndlovu in the director’s seat.

The cast put on a short teaser performance recently which showed that the play would undoubtedly bring spectators to their feet when it hits the Maitisong Theatre stage on June 12th and 13th.

The play will appeal to both children and adults. Ndlovu has changed the setting of the folktale and tweaked the plot. He said at a press briefing held at MaruPula recently that the plot is set in the Kingdom of Peponi, Egypt.”Peponi in Swahili means a beautiful place,” he said.

He said unlike in the Cinderella fairy tale where the main character finally gets married to a prince, in the adaptation, her stepmother kills her before she resurrects in the underworld where an agreement with a god has to be reached for her to continue to live.
