DISS Dismisses Allegations

| May 7, 2015

The Directorate of Intelligence and Security Services (DISS) has dismissed as untrue, reports carried in some local newspapers regarding its director general.

A press release from the agency stated that the Sunday Standard of April 26 linked DISS and its director general to certain operations of Noroc Technologies and another story in the Gazette of April 29, linked the directorate to illegal activities of a certain Jerry Chitube.

“We would like to categorically state that the Directorate of Intelligence and Security Services has never issued any instructions to Mr Monty Chiepe or any other person in their alleged dealings with Noroc Technologies. Mr Chiepe has publicly gone on record denying these allegations,” the release stated.

The statement said DISS was also not handling any tender related to the Safe City project of the Botswana police.

On Mr Chitube, the statement said the man had never been engaged or worked for the DISS in any capacity. The directorate bemoaned that the two media houses had not given them an opportunity to comment before or after going to print.
