Government Collects Over P1.5 Billion From Alcohol Levy

Assistant Minister of Health, Dr Alfred Madigele, says as of December 2014, a total of P1 592 414 187.91 has been collected since the inception of alcohol levy in 2008.

He said utilisation of this expenditure is as follows, six per cent collection fee by Botswana Unified Revenue Services (P95 544 851.27), P31 410 715.92 for administrative running of the Alcohol campaign, P809 740 484.92 for various beneficiaries including Non-Governmental Organisations.

MP for Mogoditshane, Mr Sedirwa Kgoroba had asked the assistant minister to appraise the house on the total amount collected thus far since the inception of the alcohol levy followed by a breakdown of expenditure since its introduction to date.
