Government has been commended for its extensive efforts to address challenges that have been bedeviling the education sector.
Speaking in Parliament, Palapye MP, Mr Moiseraele Goya said among other programmes, the government came up with the Education and Training Strategic Sector Plan (ETSSP) as another possible way to help the education sector.
He said the ETSSP was designed to comprehensively transform education from pre-primary to tertiary level so that the country’s education should be aligned and responsive to contemporary and future economic needs.
Mr Goya, who is also Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, said the government recently introduced the Target 20 000 programme which aims to help those that did not do well in junior certificate and Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education to further their studies for a better life.
Furthermore, he said the Target 20 000 programme was a welcome development since the government intend to spread it across the country, and not only for educational institutions in Gaborone.
On another matter, the Palapye MP said it was for a purpose that the government had many programmes meant to improve the lives of the youth in the country because challenges facing the youth were rampant.
“The youth in this country are faced with so many challenges, so to address these many challenges we should come up with many interventions to see how best we can help address the situation,” he said.
Mr Goya also applauded the Ministry of Health for turning one of the clinics in Palapye to offer 24 hours services.
He, however, suggested that staffing at the clinic should be beefed since Palapye had grown significantly.
