Green Lovers Book Promotional Playoff Berth

| April 20, 2015

Debswana First Division North campaigners, Green Lovers have booked themselves a spot in the promotional play-offs after they beat TASC 2-0 on April 18.

Green Lovers came into the game with 38 points and needed a win or draw to thwart off any challenges by Tafic and Kazungula who were each at 35 points and needed wins with the hope that the Serowe side would lose its game.

Their victory over TASC meant they were the league’s runners-up with 41 points after another Serowe side, Miscellaneous gained automatic promotion to the premier league.

Green Lovers were led by inspirational captain, Kentse Keakabetse, who played his heart out and led his troops on the offensive on former top league campaigners, TASC. It was Keakabetse’s maneuvering and deadly combination upfront with Edwin Tshimologo and Moatlhodi Ralesotla that proved to be the thorn in TASC’s flesh.

Green Lovers made their intentions for the day clear earlier on the match when Ralesotla failed to utilize a golden opportunity after a break through on the 3rd minute.

TASC played many aerial balls through the likes of Victor Matlala, Tsaone Mashwate and Mpho Mokhubami, trying to penetrate the resolute Green Lovers defence.

The Francistown side failed to use their home ground aantage and dictate terms to the visitors, with the likes of Lucas Motlhabane finding themselves failing to beat Green Lovers dread-locked goalkeeper, Kemmonye Nyangane.

On the 24th minute, inspirational Keakabetse opened the score sheet, beating TASC goalie, Kutlo Motshwaedi after his defence failed to clear a ball inside the 16-yard area. TASC tried to regroup and account for themselves with Bollen Modise forcing a save out of Nyangane on the 31st minute.

Again, TASC failed to level matters when Mashwate was put through just before halftime and the game went to recess with the visitors leading 1-0.

In the second half, Green Lovers continued to pile the pressure and within five minutes into the half, hardworking Ralesotla managed to beat TASC’s Motshwaedi, only for dread-locked Mashwate to save the day when he cleared for a corner.

The pressure continued to increase and on the 49th minute, Tumo Keiketlile forced Motshwaedi to save a snap shot. Ralesotla put it beyond TASC’s reach when he scored the second goal for his team to head to the play-offs on the 53rd minute with a well taken shot.

Their efforts to increase the goals proved futile as Motshwaedi was outstanding on the TASC last line of defence, saving his team further embarrassment.

The victory added the woes to Francistown sides as they will be welcoming ECCO City Greens to the First Division league, taking the second city’s campaigners in the second tier league to five and without representation in the be Mobile Premier League.
