Journalists to Experience Okavango Delta

As the Ngamiland district is working around the clock to celebrate the listing of Okavango Delta as a World Heritage Site, two local intrepid travellers and photojournalists, Thalefang Charles of Mmegi Newspaper and Pako Lesejane of Botswana Guardian are expected to embark on an aenturous water trail expedition across the Okavango Delta from Shakawe to Maun using mekoro (dugout canoes).

The exercise dubbed “Cross Okavango Delta Expedition” is supported by Botswana Tourism Organization (BTO) and scheduled for May 30 to June 16. Histrokavango Safaris together with experienced polers from the Mbiromba Camp from Seronga would be guides for the expedition.

The travellers are expected to tell the story of the Okavango Delta to Batswana and the rest of the world through the eyes of young Batswana aentures. Meanwhile, a press release from the leader of the expedition, Thalefang Charles states that the trip aims to promote local travel by encouraging Batswana to travel so that they could enhance their pride for their beautiful country.

The release also states that the expedition also would be a celebration for the listing of the Okavango Delta as a World Heritage site. “Okavango Delta was listed as the 1000th UNESCO World Heritage Site list last year and this expedition, which will be on a bio-friendly mode of transport, boat amp mekoro, will help Botswana to promote green-travel and preserve their jewel of the Kgalagadi,” says the statement.

The expedition would assist in the promotion of this aenturous eco-friendly trail to attract more global aenturous tourists through social, media, newspaper reports, blogs, video and coffee table book.

Furthermore, the statement indicated that the trail has a great potential to be among Africa’s best aenture trails. The expedition will be a trail blazer for more daring aenturers from around the world and locally.

The expedition will have film crew that will produce a travel documentary show after the completion of the trip.
