Kgosi Encourages Sharing

Kgosi Rueben Kethobogile of Matsitama in the Shashe West constituency has urged residents to have the spirit of sharing the little they have with the needy.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony of goods worth over P40 000 from the family of Ms Ontibile Peo, Kgosi Kethobogile said nowadays people believed that it was government’s responsibility to give or encourage the rich to do so.

He said such kind of thinking should be discouraged as it killed the spirit of Botho among the people, adding that the less privileged felt isolated and this widens the gap between the rich and the poor.

Kgosi Kethobogile therefore encouraged the residents to take a lead in giving out to those in need within the village, as that would encourage other people from outside to lend a helping hand.

“We should not only be on the lookout for an outsider to come and help one of us,” he said.

Meanwhile, senior assistant council secretary for Tutume sub district, Mr Lawrence Mazinyane said government always encourages the spirit of giving because alone it cannot afford to carter for every needy person in the country.

This, he said, has led to the President Lt Gen Seretse Khama Ian Khama appealing to Batswana and the private sector to help.

He noted that due to limited funds the sub district council was unable to cater for all needy people in all three constituencies that fall under them hence they appreciate the assistance from companies.

For her part, Ms Peo donated 93 pairs of leather shoes for both boys and girls, 20 blankets, 83 bags of sorghum and 164 packages for children.

She said the donation was in response to the government’s call to revive the spirit of giving.

However, she raised a concern about parents who indulge in excessive intake of alcohol and neglect their responsibilities of caring and providing for their children.

Ms Peo encouraged parents to change their lifestyles.
