Kofukan Team Brings Five Medals

Botswana Kofukan team brought home four gold medals and a silver one from the Kofukan World Championships that ended on March 29 in Norway.

The team participated in team Kumite and individual Kumite since there were no Kata categories.

Speaking in an interview on March 31, Sensei Webster Lentswe, said the team thata was made of only men did well in the tournament. Sensei Lentswe said the team scooped position one in team Kumite after it faced Norway in the finals following victory against England in the first round.

The team Kumite was made up of Kabelo Molefe, Oratile Caiphus, Nelson Matshamekwane, Mogakolodi Motlhabi and Orchard Kgosieile. He said in Individual Kumite, the age of 1617years under 61Kg category, Thabang Setshego scooped gold medal, followed by Kabelo Molefe in under 67kg who also scooped a gold medal.

In under 75kg Individual Kumite category Nelson Matshamekwane scooped a gold medal, followed by Oratile Caiphus who got a silver medal while Mogakolodi Motlhabi scooped a gold medal in +75kg Individual Kumite.

Sensei Webster Lentswe was awarded a medal for best referee of the tournament and also scooped a medal of overall tournament and a souvenir. The Botswana Kofukan team got a trophy for the best team of the tournament.

Sensei Lentswe said the morale for the team was high and they were committed to win more medals, adding that 16 countries participated in the championships and amongst them were Belarus, Bulgaria, Denmark, England, France, Nepal, Russia, Scottland, Slovenia and Sweden.
