Lotlaamoreng Relinquishes Duties

| June 17, 2015

Barolong have accepted Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II’s request to relinquish his duties as Barolong kgosikgolo.

They acceded to the request after Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II informed them in a kgotla meeting in Good Hope yesterday (June 16) that he intended to step down from his seat as kgosikgolo of Barolong.

“I therefore request permission from you to go and pursue my other private and personal life,” he said.

Kgosi Lotlaamoreng, who did not divulge much information on what he intended pursuing after relinquishing his royal seat, said, “In the event that there is any new development in my life while I have stepped down, the relevant people would inform you about that.”

Commenting on the issue, Barolong expressed mixed feelings. Some people felt that Kgosi Lotlaamoreng did not fully disclose the purpose for leaving his position. Mr Motsamai Kegakilwe from Hebron requested Kgosi Lotlaamoreng to inform morafe as to where he was going and what he was going to do.

Some said consultations were not done well, while Mr Augustine Sebolai suggested that the matter be fully addressed in the presence of all relevant Barolong authority.

Mr Sebolai also suggested that the matter be re-addressed in the presence of Kgosi Lotlaamoreng’s elder uncle, who resides in South Africa, Mr Jeff Montshioa, adding that the uncle was the relevant person to inform Barolong of kgosi’s intention to relinquish his seat.

Some felt that Kgosi Lotlaamoreng was cagey about the reasons for leaving his seat, but he reiterated that he was taking a rest for a while to aance his personal and private life. At the end of the discussion, the gathering agreed in unison and gave Kgosi Lotlamoreng the nod to go.

Kgosi Galaxy Marumola, who was director of ceremony, asked those who disagreed to raise their hands, but none did. Kgosi Lotlamoreng also announced that Kgosi Botiki Motshegare, who had been his deputy, will take over as Barolong regent.

For his part, Kgosi Motshegare agreed to Kgosi Lotlaamoreng’s request to follow his wishes and wished him well in his future plans. He told Barolong that he tried all he could to convince Kgosi Lotlaamoreng to stay, but all in vain.

“We as his tribesmen, have given him a green light to carry out his plans,” he said. Kgosi Motshegare said, as a youth, Kgosi Lotlaamoreng had shown a lot of interest in driving his youthful desires.

In his vote of thanks, Councillor for Good Hope, Mr Olopeng Modibedi thanked the multitudes who thronged the kgotla in large numbers. He supported Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II in his wish to relinquish bogosi for a while, saying he was proud of him

“Ever since you were draped and officially appointed as kgosikgolo of Barolong, you have never disappointed nor failed us in any way,” he said. Cllr Modibedi said he was hopeful that wherever Kgosi Lotlaamoreng was going, he would still not disappoint Barolong.

He thanked Kgosi Lotlaamoreng for consulting his morafe before taking a mammoth decision to relinquish his seat. BOPA
