Makhwengwe Quits Panel

| April 16, 2015

Philemon Makhwengwe has resigned from the panel that selects man of the match during be Mobile Premier League’s televised matches.

He quit the panel just few days after an interview with BOPA in which he explained the criteria used to select man-of-the-match.

Though Makhwengwe was mum about reasons that prompted his sudden resignation, BOPA has it on good authority that he was not happy with the choice of man of the match in the game between Orapa United and Mochudi Centre Chiefs on Sunday (April 12).

Allegations abound that an officer from Botswana Premier League decided to choose his own man of the match with a youth development coach, ignoring Makhwengwe’s panel.

According to a reliable source, Makhwengwe’s panel was eyeing the trio of Tendai Nyamusi, Galabgwe Moyana and Sekgabo Molebatsi, but at the end of the game the award was given to Orapa United captain, Thabang Mosigi.

“From what I understand, The Phil resigned because he felt that he could not account for the gross mis-choice. This has defeated the whole purpose and will fuel the complaints and he is not the first person to resign from this panel. If you remember very well Nelson Olebile and Innocent Morapedi have also resigned,” said the source.

Botswana Premier League, chief executive officer Bennett Mamelodi said he was still waiting to hear from Makhwengwe.

“Look I just heard, but I am waiting for him so that we find a way to move forward. Make no mistake, Makhwengwe was very important in the process of choosing man of the match,” Mamelodi said.
