Mascom Extends Volleyball Sponsorship

Mascom has extended its sponsorship of the national volleyball league by one more year.

Mascom and Botswana Volleyball Federation ( BVF) announced the extension when the league was launched in Gaborone last week. The company will sponsor the 2015 season to the tune of P1.5 million.

The two parties expressed delight at their eight-year relationship that saw the mobile giants’ sponsorship of the league steadily increasing over the years.

The initial sponsorship was worth P1 million a season for the 2010, 2011 and 2012 season. After it elapsed, the two parties agreed on a P3 million sponsorship that ran for two years between 2013 and 2014 seasons.

Mascom’s chief communications and public relations officer, Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego said the sponsorship should contribute to betterment of volleyball and results in continued and improved team participation.

She, however, expressed worry at the decline of women teams that were competing in the Mascom volleyball league, explaining that BVF and Mascom were engaged into finding solutions to the problem and ensuring improved women participation in volleyball.

For his part BVF president Daniel Molaodi said his federation excels in good governance and was accredited during the Federation of International Volleyball congress, whenre they were chosen as one of the model national federations for good governance.

Regarding the decline of women teams’ participation in the volleyball league he said it is results ofdue to circumstances which are beyond the federation’s control. He said it is a phenomenon that has been obtaining for the past years. However, he said the federation executive has put in place some mechanism to deal with that.
