Masilo to Mention on April 29

| April 7, 2015

Thabo Masilo is scheduled to appear for mention at the Village Magistrate Court on April 29.

Masilo, who is also serving a 10-year jail term, made an appearance before Principal Magistrate Goodwill Makofi last week.

Masilo is facing two counts of robbing and indecently assaulting his victim by inserting his two middle fingers in her private parts. The incident reportedly happened in November 13, 2012 at Kgale View location in Gaborone, where he allegedly used violence when robbing his victim of a black X2 Nokia cellphone.

His lawyer, Mr Kgosietsile Ngakaagae, and the prosecution, agreed that the next mention should be set in a month’s time after confirming July 27-28, 2015 as trial dates.

Earlier on, Mr Ngakaagae had told the court that they were foregoing the issue that they raised with the court that Masilo was being perpetually harassed and taken photos by the media and that he was being denied tan opportunity to cover his face when he entered the court.

He said they will therefore move on with the mentions. Meanwhile, Mr Ngakaagae acknowledged the suggestion by Magistrate Makofi that it would be prudent to move trial dates closer to deal with the matter within a short time.

Mr Ngakaagae, however, said though he appreciated the positive gesture, he was still hamstrung by Masilo’s murder trial before the High Court that might be called anytime.

“Should the opportunity crop-up for the case to be rescheduled to nearer dates, we will gladly snatch it,” he said.
