Maun Meat Festival Survives Hiccups

| April 8, 2015

Although the second annual Maun Meat festival served meat lovers late, one of the organisers, Thipe Mackennie has said their event was a success.

The event, which was supposed to start at 10am on April 4 at Maun Sports Complex started at a slow pace at about 6pm, with little meat available for braai to silence the audience who complained that they came as early as 3pm with the hope to find meat ready.

At around 8pm, uproar ensued from the audience as they threatened one of the sponsors and local club owner, Reneilwe ‘Manex’ Wright that they wanted meat that was promised as aertised.

The youthful Wright calmed the audience with the promise that cooked meat will arrive within 30 minutes since it was prepared outside the Maun Sports Complex where the event was held.

Indeed meat did arrive within promised time and the seemingly hungry meat lovers queued for beef stew, seswaa and papa while voerwors and some meat were on the braai stands. Mackennie maintained that the 2nd annual meat festival was a success despite the hiccups they encountered.

He said the heavy rains that were experienced in Maun prior to the event were the reason for their misfortunes, although he said he was thankful that it did not rain on the day of the event.

Furthermore, he pointed out that the plan to deliver meat on time to the revellers was hampered by rain since it was decided that the meat dishes be prepared at a different venue where some challenges were experienced too.

Mackennie said as the organisers, they did however apologise to their followers that the meat dishes were delivered late. However, he maintained that the event was a success since the attendance increased after the postponement of the annual Mascom Horse Race Derby from April 4 to April 5 due to heavy rains.

Mackennie also said all artistes aertised were present such as Vee, T.H.A.B.O, Mapetla and the local maestro Stiger Solar.
