Police Investigate Murder, Wounding Incidents

Two people, a 40- year-old woman and an eight-year-old girl of Phase 1 ward in Letlhakane, were recently admitted at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital with serious injuries after a hut they were sleeping in was set ablaze.

In an interview, Assistant Superintendent Tom Maputako of Letlhakane Police Station said they were also investigating a case in which a woman aged 35 was stabbed to death with a sharp object while trying to escape from the inferno.

Asp Maputako said they had arrested a 40-year-old man of Tidimalo ward in Mokubilo to help them with investigations.

He said the suspect was staying together with the three people at Kutitshaa lands near Mosu and he had a misunderstanding with the 40-year old woman believed to be his lover.

The woman had prior to the incident reported an assault case to the police concerning the suspect and the police were still searching for the man, said Asp Maputako.

The police said the arson incident happened after the woman went back to the suspect’s house to collect her belongings following the assault.

Meanwhile, still in Letlhakane, police are investigating a case in which a 61-year-old man of Phase 1 ward in Letlhakane was found hanging dead from a tree at Xharoo Kamatsuruu cattle post near Mosu village recently.

Asp Maputako said upon notification of the incident, they rushed to the scene and found an already decomposed body. The body lies at the mortem in Letlhakane hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem.

He however urged people to seek aice from social workers, relatives and dikgosi if they have misunderstandings or problems.
