Police Release Names of the Deceased [press release]

Updating the media yesterday (April 23), the Commissioner of Police, Mr Keabetswe Makgophe said the police had already commenced investigations into the circumstances that led to the crash and unfortunate death of the crew.

Mr Makgophe said the deceased are Superintendent Keokeditswe Sobatha of Molepolole, Assistant Superintendent Shepherd Ntobedzi of Kalakamati and Inspector Ricardo Mabotho of Lekgolobotlo.

The commissioner could neither explain the exact location where the helicopter was found in the Okavango Delta nor its condition after the crash, saying that could only be established after completion of the investigations. He said families of the deceased had been informed.

Mr Makgophe thanked everybody and all organisations that assisted in the search and rescue mission and paid his condolences to the bereaved families.

The crew, which comprised two pilots and an airborne law enforcement officer, was on routine duty in the Okavango area when the accident occurred. The helicopter was reported to have left Gumare for Maun.
