Mafolofolo men went down 2-3 to Spiking Stars in the Mascom Volleyball League in Lobatse on Saturday (May 16).

It was a tough battle from the minute umpire Tiro Setlhare blew the whistle to signal the beginning of the match. There was little separating the two teams as they went point to point throughout the first set, until Mafolofolo took it 25 – 22.

The lead gave Mafolofolo more confidence and they started hitting hard spikes which Spiking Stars failed to block. They won the second set to open a 2-0 lead. However, Spiking Stars were not intimidated and they staged a rousing come back.

They won the third set 25-18 to reduce the deficit to 2 -1. Senior national team player, Bokao Nagafel,a helped his team to pick its level of performance as they won the fourth set to level the match 2-2.

The deciding set became a walk in the park for Spiking Stars, which took aantage of lack of endurance by Mafolofolo and easily won the set 15 – 7 to seal a 3- 2 victory.

Spiking Stars coach, Peaceful Seleka expressed happiness at how his boys came from the behind to win a difficult match that required mental strength and endurance.

“It could have been easy for Mafolofolo to beat us 3-0 as they had won the first two sets. But, we saw the importance of winning the third set to ensure continuity of the game and ultimately scooped the game from them,” Seleka said.

Mafolofolo coach, Kagiso Monnaesi said the game was not easy. “My players lost morale after losing the third set, and they could not receive and block spikes as there was a lot of intimidation from the opponents,” he said.

He said his team will get back to the basics of play in its preparation for its next game. In the other men’s game Prisons succumbed to Kalavango by a 3 -1 score.
