Wildlife Department Presents Food Hampers

| May 27, 2015

The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) in the North East district together with the tourism industry in the district have donated food hampers and blankets to four orphans of Mosojane village.

The donation worth P5 000 was handed over to the guardians of the orphans during a short ceremony held in Masunga on May 20. Masunga head of DWNP, Ms Elizabeth Masuku said they found if fit to take heed and respond to the national Vision pillar of being a compassionate, just and caring nation by giving a helping hand to the less fortunate.

Ms Masuku said after coming up with the idea as staff, they realised that they were few in numbers, they then decided to approach the tourism industry in the district to partner with them and they did not hesitate to come on board. She said it was their first step towards giving back to the community they serve and their aim is to continue with the spirit of helping the less privilege.

Some of the tourism industries who took part toward the donation of those items are Grundy’s Game Ranch, Lesegolame Game Ranch, Thaba ya Nkwe, Modumela Lodge and Stop Over Motel.

Speaking on behalf of the tourism industry, Mr Shaun Buffee of Grundy’s said although the sector had increased employment opportunities within the district, they were similarly happy to have worked with DWNP towards assisting the less fortunate people in the district. He said it is also a contribution to one of Botswana national vision pillars of being a compassionate, just and caring nation.

Mr Buffee said they were also encouraged and motivated by the saying ‘lucky is the hand that gives than the one that only receives’ and for that he assured that they would continue supporting other initiatives such as this one.

The caregivers, Ms Gadifele Lupe and Ms Elizabeth Manual extended their gratitude towards the gesture.
