Youth Should Strengthen Character

| April 2, 2015

Youth in Tonota have been encouraged to strengthen their character in order to grow as morally upright individuals committed to building g communities.

Chairperson of Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) in the North East region, Ms Ludo Mosojane encouraged the young people when officially opening a Youth Leadership workshop at Letlhabile Junior School in Tonota on March 31.

She stated that the intention of the workshop was to plant a seed of responsibility over small and big decisions because life’s challenges created pressure and that survival could only be determined by positive responses.

Ms Mosojane said after the workshop, there should be a little in the hearts of those young people with regard to the power that lied within them to uphold good principles that will help them reach their desired destiny.

She further said traditionally, Batswana families were g morally because leadership values and life skills were imparted during their formative years in small but significant things.

Ms Mosojane said high rates of divorce, increase in single and youthful parents, and parent absenteeism caused by hard economic situations had fueled the pressure facing the youth hence the need to run a series of short workshops to empower them.

She appealed to all dikgosi to mobilize young girls and boys for life skills so that they would live with the right choices. The chairperson of the Tonota Society for Gender and Human Rights, Ms Quitty Hulela highlighted that the objective of the workshop was to equip young people with skills they could use on their daily lives.

Ms Hulela added that those skills would also include identifying who they were, decision making, the challenges they faced as the youth and reproductive health.

In his welcoming remarks, Kgosi Keeletse Tselawa acknowledged the workshop organizers for enhancing the capacity of the youth to stand firm against emerging issues by developing inbuilt mechanisms to survive.
