BCL Accommodates 2 064 Employees

The number of active permanent staff employed by BCL on a full-time basis, as at October 2014, was 4 611, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Slumber Tsogwane has said.

Mr Tsogwane was responding to a question in parliament from Selebi-Phikwe West MP, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse, on behalf of the Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Mr Kitso Mokaila.

The mine, he said, had a total of 2 085 houses, of which four were guest houses, whilst 17 were leased to Kopano Primary School, Morula School and SPEDU.

Currently,he, said a total of 2 064 employees were accommodated by the mine and there were 394 single accommodation rooms with 380 employees accommodated in them.

“BCL is reviewing its philosophy on the provision of accommodation, with a view to partnering with other stakeholders involved in the housing sector to develop and implement an employee home ownership scheme,” he added.

The mine, Mr Tsogwane said, paid varying allowances with the amount based on employee grade level, and these allowances, he said ranged from P388 to P675 per month for employees not accommodated by the mine.

Dr Keorapetse had asked the minister to state the number of people employed by BCL on a full-time basis, the number of houses the mine had and the number of employees accommodated by the mine.

Additionally, the Selebi Phikwe West MP had also wanted to know the number of employees accommodated in hostels, plans in place for the employees not accommodated by the mine and the amount of money paid by the mine as accommodation allowance for employees not accommodated by the mine.
