BDF IX men and Dinare women are winners of the Selebi Phikwe softball extravaganza held during the President’s Holidays.
BDF IX managed to score three runs and a home run in the third inning and increased their lead in the sixth inning to beat Wells 6-4 and become champions of the tournament for the third time.
BDF IX coach Major James Moremedi said they used their strategy of scoring more runs to win the match.
Dinare clashed with Wells in the ladies final and ran out 7-4 winners.Dinare coach Basiami Molathegi said they were well prepared and determined for the tournament as they wanted to defend their title even though players were rusty.
He further said their pitcher was smart enough when throwing balls to give Wells good strikes which put Wells players under pressure.
The champions pocketed P60 000 while the bottom teams settled for P8000.
Othusitse Molathegi of Wells was voted the most valuable player in the ladies category; the best slugger award went to Dube Bafedile of Dinare, while best outfielder award was given to Bonolo Molefe of Dinare.
On the men side the most valuable player award went to Obusitswe Lekgothu of BDF IX, best slugger went to Thabiso Radithobane of Wells and best outfielder was awarded to Gaomodimo Kgomotso of Wells. They each pocketed P1000.
