The Botswana Defence Force has donated P20 000 cheque each to Ntwakgolo Support Group and Light amp Courage Centre in Francistown.

The funds raised through a BDF charity concert were handed over to the two organisations by the Commander of 2nd Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Molefhi Seikano.

The public relations officer, Captain Bokang Gaobotse said in an interview that the concerts aimed at raising funds to aid charity organisations throughout the country in line with the Vision 2016 pillar of being a compassionate, just and caring nation.

He said the first show of this year’s series of concerts was held at Sir Seretse Khama Barracks Auditorium where they managed to donate cheques for P45 000 to Lady Khama Centre, SOS Children of Schools and Red Cross Society.

Captain Gaobotse said the concerts were a reach out initiative aimed at giving back the community. He noted that they had another show in Selebi Phikwe where they donated a cheque for P20 000 to another organisation in Bobonong.

Captain Gaobotse further said even if their host venues do not change they are now able to reach far places in terms of rendering assistance. For his part, the band manager Lt Col. Phillip Modise said Batswana admire their annual concert because they perform with a live band and do not use compact discs and cassettes.

He said they were planning to host their concert in stadiums in future to cater for more Batswana.

Lt Col. Modise said the good attendances were indicative enough that Batswana support their charitable events.
