Botswana: Heavyweight Comedy Stages August

| July 27, 2016

The fourth annual International Heavyweight Comedy Festival (IHCOFEST) is slated for August 5 in Gaborone. The much anticipated show will be headlined by South Africa's top notch funny man, Mashabela Galane.

This will not be the first time the comedian performs in the country as he has featured in several local shows, courtesy of Major Moves Comedy.

Mashabela was named Young Comedian of the Year, in the Young Achiever in Arts and Entertainment category during the Ikusasa Awards in 2012.

Galane went to Wits University where he obtained his honours degree in Fine Arts.

He later started his own production company called Monnatiya Productions where he deals with standup comedy and artist branding among others.

Galane's acting credits include appearances in Welcome to Joburg by ZweliBanzi, Opening Guys, a short film on Mzansi Magic, and Teenagers on the Move, also a short film on SABC1.

IHCOFEST will also feature some of Botswana's most funny and acclaimed stand-up comedians in Rekunde, Zozo, Ouza, Moshi, K-LO and Roy.

There will also be talent from other countries such as Mdura from Swaziland, Clive Chighubu from Zimbabwe and TAAP THE GUY of Namibia.

Meanwhile, Major Moves' events coordinator, Gaolatlhe Kediemetse said such events were important to the growth of the local comedy industry, as at every show, they had always introduced and given a chance to upcoming local comedians to share the stage with top acts.

He also said having held many successful shows which featured only Botswana comics, it was just natural for them to have comedy shows that featured acts from other countries. He added that it was also meant for sharing ideas and benchmarking purposes.
