Botswana to Host Miss Africa

The biggest beauty pageant in the continent, Miss Africa, is coming to Botswana.

Spearheaded by Lentswe la Monana, the beauty pageant will provide a platform for youth aocacy and engagement, which will be made up of collective youth in Africa and other stakeholders.

Lentswe la Monana chief executive officer, Bruce Nkgakile said beauty pageants the world over had proven to be an efficient mechanism for societal change and influence positive behaviour in the society hence they started Miss Africa.

He further explained that this will be done to give back to charity through the raised funds all over the world as well as a gain of culture diversity thereby promoting different cultures all over the continent also cultural tolerance of the participating African countries.

“Those that will emerge as winners during these pageants will be given the honours of being their country ambassadors which in a way promotes the 5050 gender equality that SADC has long proposed in women holding higher posts,” he said.

He added that that this came up after realizing Africa has no continental pageant and shall set foot with Ms Africa-Botswana as other countries will be lobbied to join in by the year 2016 when Botswana turns fifty years.

“We have secured support from nineteen companies government and parastatals, to name but a few we have Botswana Tourism Organization, Zulu Royal Trust, Jack’s Gym, Yarona FM, Good Morning Africa (DSTV) and Essence Spa Saloon. We are however still in negotiations with others,” said Nkgakile.

The public relations strategy revealed that they have started working on their aertising and marketing strategy with the use of social media, (Facebook, twitter) which will promote the project once it commences.

In addition, to hype up the event there are currently taxis in different routes and localities being branded to activate the event locally with sponsor’s logos on them too. There are some private car stickers which will be stuck on disk jokers, artists and the willing public’s cars.

Nkgakile further explained that in order to lobby the public into supporting the prestigious occasion radio and television aerts will be coming soon pending on the launch.

Also they are hopeful to have prominent members of the society including the two former Presidents of Botswana Sir Ketumile Masire, Mr Festus Mogae and other senior government and private sector officials to grace the launch.

There are also some corporate and promotional wear as an aertising strategy was adopted. A wide range of clothes varying from t shirts, hats, caps and jackets for the sponsors and partners to promote Miss Africa Brand.

Lastly, “our intended plan is to have this event annually, starting it off in Botswana and other countries in Africa and further details will be reviled at a Press Conference which will be held in Gaborone on the 8th of February this year” he said.
