Botswana Hosts Cossasa

| July 11, 2016

Botswana will host the 2016 Confederation of School Sport Associations in Southern Africa (COSSASA) sports ball games from August 22-28.

During the launch and announcement of the local organising committee, the board chairperson, Mephato Reatile said the COSSASA games have played a crucial role in Botswana's elite athletes.

"The COSSASA championships have created a platform in the past for the likes of Nigel Amos, Tracy Chaba, Mogakolodi Ngele and Tumisang Bagidi," he said.

Reatile said such athletes have gone to represent Botswana at international competitions and attained stardom in the process.

He further explained that in 2014, Botswana hosted the athletics championships and an astounding success was recorded by Botswana. He said this set a mark to be equaled or be surpassed by the organisers of this year's games.

Reatile said the board members would supervise the executives of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) which comprises the leadership of BOPSSA and BISA.

"I have entrusted the LOC with the responsibility of setting up sub-committees to help in the delivery of successful games, and I believe Team Botswana has started preparations for the games by assembling teams which will compete," he said.

Reatile noted that COSSASA membership comprises Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Lesotho, Angola, Mozambique, South Africa and Swaziland. In this year's COSSASA competitions, there will be volleyball, basketball, football, rugby, tennis and netball.
