Botswana: Mabeo Attends GMSA Congress

Gaborone - The Minister of Transport and Communications (MTC), Mr Tshenolo Mabeo is in Spain to attend a Group Special Mobile Association (GMSA) Mobile World congress.

The four-day congress, which started on Monday is held under the theme: Connecting Everyone and Everything to a Better Future.

A statement released by MTC says the congress provides a unique forum for ministers, CEOs, regulators and policy makers around the world to discuss challenges and opportunities facing the mobile industry.

The statement explains that the congress will afford Mr Mabeo an opportunity to interact with delegates from other countries and companies to discuss challenges and opportunities facing the mobile industry.

This include the aim of addressing challenges that have emerged in the Botswana market as well as potential opportunities that will make the mobile industry an important contributor to the economy of the country.

"The minister will also dialogue with his counterparts, senior representatives from the public and private sectors on the pivotal role that mobile technology plays in connecting people, transforming society by enabling accelerated social and economic progress," reads the statement.

The congress schedule include the mobile world summit which is an exclusive meeting for ministers, ecosystem leaders and policy makers to dialogue on the mobiles industry's priorities and future direction.

Leadership workshops that explore topics like mobile identity, the Internet of things, future regulatory paradigms and expanding connectivity for women among others will also be part of the forum. Mr Mabeo is expected back home on February 27.
