Francistown - All the nocturnal activities came to a standstill in Francistown when My Star Top 20 was launched at Adansonia Hotel on Saturday.

The launch marked the 10th season of My Star previously known as Pop Star during its first launch in 2007.

My Star 2016 came with a twist in its culture of selecting contestants and decided to bring together its former winners, thus the Best of the Best tagline.

The Top 20 contestants season brought together the likes of Bianca Gabasiane, Sharon Sebonge, Tebogo Seoseng, among others, who gave the people of Francistown an experience.

The launch had the Adansonia's conference room filled to capacity.

All contestants came prepared as they gave exuberant performances which left many mesmerised. Bianca who came on stage dazzling gave a brilliant performance while Tebogo whom the ladies from the audience had shown love for, gave an exceptional piece. Sharon also gave her all.

The show organiser, Keabetswe Sesinyi aka Master Dee said in an interview that the change of location from Gaborone to launch the show in Francistown was because people had been yearning to see the launch brought to their town.

Master Dee also said the Best of the Best was to honour people who had started the show in its early days when the prize money was P10 000 owing to lack of sponsorship.

While some people would have liked contestants to have launched the show with their own songs, Master Dee explained that not all of them were good composers, and that it would require a lot of money.

He said because the voting lines were officially open, judges were always faced with critical work from the elimination process and the intensity of the show as a build up to other levels of the competition.

Kgomotso Tshwenyego, who has been a judge for the past nine years, said all their contestants had passion and talent for music and as such gave judges courage to critic with love and hence exceptional performances.

Kgomotso said it took contestants a lot of practice to have a successful performance. She also reiterated that they were always faced with hurdles during the elimination process.
