Botswana: Mzwinila to Attend Parliamentary Conference

Gaborone - The Member of Parliament for Mmadinare, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila left for Belgium on Sunday to attend the 35th session of the steering Committee of the Parliamentary Conference on the World Trade Organization (WTO).

A press release from the National Assembly states that the session, scheduled from February 16 to 17 will discuss some items such as, the recent development in multi-lateral trade negotiations and the outcome of the 10th WTO Ministerial Conference which was held in Nairobi last year.

It states that the session will also discuss the central role of the WTO in international trade negotiations as well as the benefits of trade and investment for the least developed countries.

The steering committee of the parliamentary conference on WTO is a permanent mechanism of parliamentary oversight of the WTO and its de facto parliamentary dimension.

The committee consists of representatives of some 25 national parliaments, regional, global parliamentary assemblies and structures, as well as the inter Parliamentary Union and the WTO secretariat.
