There are no plans to proceed with the expansion of Tshane Prison which was deferred at the onset of NDP 10, says the Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi.
He said the project, together with the Tshane Police staff accommodation, have both been submitted for consideration under NDP 11 within the existing budgetary constraints.
Mr Kgathi said his ministry plans to establish police posts countrywide over NDP 11 and NDP 12 planning projects as a primary strategy of fighting crime, adding that Hukuntsi would be considered for a police post during NDP 11 when funds permits.
The MP for Kgalagadi North, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi had asked the minister to give an update on the long deferred expansion of Phase 2 of Tshane Prison and staff accommodation for Tshane police. He also wanted to know if he would consider setting up a police post in Hukuntsi to provide the much needed security for the mushrooming business and the increasing population.
