Botswana: Slip N Slide Here for First Time

| April 20, 2016

Gaborone - Gaborone residents will have the opportunity to beat the cold on a 300 metres Slip 'N Slide event on the 31st April and 1st May.

The project coordinator, Tony Tabona of Godspeed Technologies, said the event was recreational and features Botswana's longest water slide, as its main attraction. He said the idea of the fun filled family event, which is open for all ages is to convert a prominent location into a pop-up water park using various inflatables for amusement.

"The 2016 Gaborone edition of the event is planned to feature activites such as zorb balls, supper giant 8,5m slide, raging bull, space rocket, wall rockers, paddle boats, dunking tank and helicopter rides," he said.

Tabona explained that at 300 meters, the slide, which is padded and three lanes wide, would be set up along a slope next to Riverwalk. He said there was already a request made in some towns for the event, and said plans were underway to have the event at Francistown, Jwaneng and Selibe Phikwe.

He assured Batswana that they have worked with city officials on the safety of the area in order to obtain a permit."While we are conscious of the water scarcity affecting the country, we are also conscious about saving it and ensuring that it is not misused.

Our main feature water slide will operate on a circulating water system during the entire two days duration of the event while it will also be processed through a filtration system to keep it clean and healthy for our users," he said.

"Every applied water usage method to the event is considered with strict water conservation and assurance that the end usage of our event's waters will benefit the environment without us wasting it," he said.Tabona said the water would be treated with chemicals and recycled to be reused throughout the day.
