Botswana: Sports Bring Employees Together-Sporting Coordinator

| July 13, 2016

Kweneng Local Authority employees on Saturday engaged on a fitness and recreational encounter competing in volleyball, netball and football.

Speaking at the beginning of the games at Lephaleng Primary School, sporting coordinator at Botswana Athletics Association Patrick Masheto challenged workers to engage in a fitness challenge and recreation to refresh from work overload.

He said having realised that workers rarely engaged in fitness activities, he approached the Local Authority and Health Inter-Sports Association (LAHISA) president with the intent to organise the sporting activity for Kweneng local authority.

Kweneng local authority comprises of the Kweneng District council, its sub-councils as well as Kweneng land board and its sub-land boards.

LAHISA president Kagiso Keitumetse said the event was meant to give the workers a moment to socialise, refresh as well as build inter-relations among themselves. He explained that the games were held for the first time in Molepolole expressing hope that the employees in the area will take interest in the event as well as help it to grow. Keitumetse also said they will be playing other SADC countries by September in Mafikeng.

Sales manager at Capital Bank Ernest Linga said they sponsored the event with trophies and prize money.

He said they have a three year contract with LAHISA as a sponsor while they have also used the opportunity to give back to the community.

Letlhakeng sub-district won all the trophies, beating Molepolole-main council 5-4 in football, and in netball, they lashed Mogoditshane/Thamaga sub-council 3-2 in the final.
