Botswana: Tafic in Fight for Promotion to Elite League

Francistown - Francistown Debswana First Division North side, Tafic have managed to collect maximum points in order to improve on their intent to be amongst the league's championship contenders by walloping Tsabotlhe FC 2-0 in a game played on Sunday.

The game, played at Tafic's background of Old Francistown Stadium was sweet victory for the former top league campaigners as they face a difficult task of returning to top flight football amid fierce opposition by the likes of Mahalapye Hotspurs, Sua Flamingoes, Ecco City Greens and Great North Tigers amongst others.

On Sunday, they came to the game with one thing in mind, to win and indeed they came out victorious against the youthful Tsabotlhe by thumping them with two goals.

The Atshele Molapi coached side made their intentions clear on the first half by using their flanks manned by Opelo Godfrey and Mbatshi Elias.

Tsabotlhe defence marshaled by the likes of Aupa Baboloki and Bakani Madayiza had to work overtime as the Tafic relentlessly visiting the goalposts with Boikhutso Baipidi as the last man of defence.

In the second half, such pressure eventually paid off as Madayiza ended up handling the ball inside the 18 yard area on the 51st minute while trying to make a back pass to his goalie, resulting in a penalty.

Tafic's ever shining left back Thato Mosweu stepped up and made no mistake by scoring from the penalty spot to make it 1-0 for the hosts. Tsabotlhe tried hard to equalise but in vain as their strikers were very wasteful even with only Tafic's goalkeeper Thatayaone Thandazela to beat.

There was near fracas in the middle of the second half when Tsabotlhe complained to the referee about the ball boys, who they believed were distracting their goalkeeper Baipedi as they sat closely behind his goal posts and this got the two sides benches heated up and exchanging harsh words.

The game however continued and Tafic's Mbatshi Machongo put a thunderbolt past Baipidi to put the game beyond Tsabotlhe on the 79th minute.

Tafic seats on position five with 22 points, just seven points away from log leaders Hotspurs, while Tsabotlhe remain in position 10 and in the dreaded relegation zone.
