| July 26, 2016

Women and Sports Botswana (WASBO) donated clothing items, house hold items and stationery to Bontleng Village Development Office (VDC) in Gaborone July 25.

Speaking during the donation, WASBO chairperson for Gaborone Region, Keenese Katisenge said they had worked hand in hand with Bontleng VDC as well as Bontleng social welfare office to identify the beneficiary.

Katisenge noted that after assessment, one vulnerable family was identified which was in needy of clothing and house hold items.

In addition, she said the region donated books because they regard them as an important tool of empowerment and changing one's mindset.

She highlighted that giving to those who were less privileged could have a positive impact and change their lives for the better.

Katisenge said their plan to donate to Bontleng VDC was mooted during the launch of 'Its on us campaign' at Bontleng.

She said the region appreciated that caring for the less privileged was a responsibility that needed to be honoured. Upon receiving the items, representative of Bontleng VDC Eva Robert expressed her gratitude towards the donation.

She said every little item donated would make a great impact.

She said as the care taker for the children who were less privileged, it was an honour to receive various donations from different individuals and entities on behalf of the needy people.

Robert commended WASBO for the generous work, adding that she hope their relationship would go a long way to improve lives of other Batswana in needy.

Meanwhile, as a substructure of Botswana National Sport Commission, WASBO is responsible for facilitating gender equity in Botswana sport.

It exists to fulfill the objectives such as increase and enhancement of women and girl child participation in sport and to empower women to take leadership positions in sport.
