Canoe Accident Claims Life, Two Missing

Botswana Police Service and Botswana Defence Force scuba divers are searching for two men, who are feared to have drowned in Lake Ngami near Sehithwa on Sunday afternoon (November 2).

Sehithwa station commander, Superintendant Zakes Masike said in an interview this morning (November 3) that three men reportedly drowned when the fibre glass canoe they were using capsised in Lake Ngami. The body of one of the three men, aged 43, was retrieved by a fisherman who witnessed the accident. The body lies at Letsholathebe hospital in Maun.

He explained that two of the three men were from Gaborone while one was a local fisherman who was the owner of the canoe. He said the accident that occurred at around 3pm was reported to the police an hour later.

Superintendent Masike said the search for the two men continues.
