Mubi: The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, has announced the establishment of Sector 4 of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in Mubi, Adamawa to sustain counter-terrorism efforts in the North-East. In a statement by the Director, Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, the CDS made this announcement during an operational visit to the state and an interface with Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the CDS stated that the visit aimed to assess the operational readiness of troops and identify areas requiring additional support. He highlighted the connection between development and security, emphasizing that direct benefits from governance encourage citizens to support and protect the system. Musa identified poverty and illiteracy as significant drivers of insecurity, noting that vulnerable populations are more susceptible to recruitment by insurgent groups. He commended the people of Adamawa for maintaining peace despite security challenges.
The CDS addressed the troops, indicating plans to construct additional barracks and increase military presence in the state. He expressed gratitude for their resilience and commitment, urging continued efforts in neutralizing criminal elements. The CDS also commended the officers and soldiers of the 23 Brigade for their role in improving peace and stability in the region.
Governor Fintiri, in response, affirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the Armed Forces with logistics and resources to enhance ongoing operations. He noted that the increased military presence might have led to a rise in terrorist activities but thanked the CDS for establishing Sector 4. The governor also announced plans to rehabilitate roads in Gibson Jalo Barracks and recruit local hunters to aid the military in addressing insecurity.
