Abuja: Mrs. Oghogho Musa, President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), has called on women residing in military barracks to prioritize regular physical exercise, healthy eating habits, and self-discipline for a healthier lifestyle.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Musa made this appeal during the DEPOWA Monthly Health Walk and Aerobics event held in Abuja. She emphasized the importance of women associated with military and paramilitary officers leading by example in promoting wellness practices, which she believes will benefit not only themselves but also their families and communities.
The DEPOWA President explained that the session was a continuation of a health talk that took place the previous day. The talk addressed crucial health topics, including stress management, nutrition, and the necessity of routine medical checkups. She noted that positive feedback from these sessions had resulted in an expanded focus on aerobics, urging participants to maintain their efforts to fully reap the health benefits.
To further motivate the women, Mrs. Musa announced that Yoga Mats would be given to those who arrived before 7:00 am, recognizing their commitment and consistency. She expressed hope that this gesture would inspire others to follow suit. She also highlighted that many women who participated in earlier sessions have already experienced improvements in their health, such as better sleep quality and lower blood pressure.
Dr. Elizabeth Egbetokun, President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), praised DEPOWA for sustaining the initiative and advocated for more inter-agency collaborations in health and wellness programs. She described exercise as a powerful tool for enhancing both physical and social well-being.
Similarly, Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, President of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), appealed to husbands to support their wives’ participation in wellness programs. She stressed that a healthy woman benefits the entire household and fosters good personal relationships within the community. Adeniyi encouraged spouses to help maintain consistency in these health-focused endeavors.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) further reported that Mrs. Musa presented 100 yoga mats to the first 100 women who arrived early, reinforcing her commitment to promoting health and wellness among barracks women.
