CNEEC to Seek Aice From Lentjes

Morupule B power station contractor, China National Electric Equipment Corporation (CNEEC) would seek aice from Lentjes Company, the German company that designed plant boilers.

The Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Mr Kitso Mokaila stated in a telephone interview after their meeting with the contactor and other relevant stakeholders recently.

Purpose of the meeting was to discuss the gap analysis and root cause analysis reports findings and map the way forward on how to rectify the defects engulfing the power plant.

These reports were done by Steag Energy Services and Babcock amp Wilcox Company (BampW) respectively.

Mr Mokaila explained that after a lengthy discussion, the concerned parties agreed that the immediate measures and long-term measures approach should be engaged to save the troubled plant.

Again, he said it was agreed that CNEEC should seek aice from Lentjes Company on the two approaches. He said government want the boilers to be redesigned so that the power station could run for 30 years without any major problems. Also, the Minister said technical people from concern parties should meet to discuss further the findings of the two reports.

Meanwhile, Minister Mokaila was skeptical that CNEEC will follow the resolutions said in several instances in the past the contractor agreed with government to rectify some defects by never did so.

However, he stated that it seems that the CNEEC employees at the station were not giving the company president, Mr Chunsheng Jin correct information about the situation at the plant hence he was invited to a weekend (last weekend) tour to appreciate what is on the ground prior December 22 meeting.
