Ouname Mhotsha and David Masole have retained their Orange Golf Classic championship.

The pair, both from Gaborone Golf Club, won the championship last year and were happy to have defended their titles. Nineteen-year-old Mhotsha won the women championship, saying however it was not an easy feat as she struggled on the final day of the tournament.

Masole said he was happy to have been able to defend his title, saying the year ended well for him. He added that he had been able to clinch a sponsorship to pay for his expenses. Both players showered praise on their coach, Mpho Kelosiwang.

For his part, Botswana Golf Union (BGU) president, Andrew Hall said he was pleased with the performance of the youths. He said they had challenges as they did not have coaches, but had five recognised golf professionals.

The youth are being trained in Orapa, Sowa, Selebi Phikwe and Gaborone and estimated the numbers to be 20 for each club.

Some of the youths have been included in the national team and Hall said previously the team struggled as it relied on grown-ups who could not keep pace with the competitors especially South Africa.

Orange has been sponsoring thetournament and the company’s sponsorship coordinator Mosarwa Molema said he was pleased with the partnership.
