Early Christmas for Vulnerable Children

Christmas came early for vulnerable and orphaned children as Chobe Safari Lodge hosted a fun-filled Christmas party for more than 150 recently.

Held annually, the party brings together orphans and vulnerable children from Botswana Red Cross society in Chobe, Children’s Ark and Metlhayabofelo Child-care service organisations in Kazungula as well as students living with disabilities from Kachikau special unit.

Not only were the children treated to a fun fair with ‘Father Christmas’ and ‘Mother Christmas,’ but there were also educational demonstrations by the Chobe District Council Fire Department and Aquarite Company on fire safety and recycling.

The coordinator of the event, the lodge’s training and development officer Ms Neo Mpofu said that they were throwing the party for the 5th consecutive year with the support of their sponsors.

“The objective is to demonstrate love towards these kids and show them that they matter,” she explained. A number of companies, most of them Chobe Safari Lodge suppliers sponsored the event to make it a resounding success.

Buy and Build, Barclays, Ronns, Spar, Senn Foods, Bush Tracks Safaris and PEP are some of the many sponsors who contributed in one way or the other towards food and gifts as well as the general activities of the day.

“We almost did not spend anything on this event, as our suppliers came through for us sponsoring food, stationery, toys, toiletries, T-shirts and others,” said Ms Mpofu.

She thanked the Chobe community for working together to make the event successful and the day ended with all the children given gift bags full of goodies.
