A press release from FNBB says the event will be held at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) at 6pm. The review will engage the public on key messages of the 2016/17 budget and stimulate conversations around economic issues. The Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Mr Kenneth Matambo is expected to deliver the budget speech today. The bank says this year's review will engage the public on social media with live channels for receiving comments and questions.

First National Bank of Botswana chief executive officer, Mr Steven Bogatsu says the budget speech played a pinnacle role in laying a foundation for the economic outlook of the country. "Our 22 years in hosting this review comes as part of our continued commitment to stimulating enlightening conversations around economic issues that can inform our personal and business decisions," he added. The release further quotes Mr Bogatsu as saying "over the years the review had provided a platform where participants interrogated and understood the national budget with the help of a panel of experts in economic and development matters." The first budget review seminar, he says was hosted three years after FNBB opened its doors in Botswana, and has since grown into a renowned calendar event in the financial services community and business community at large. Through the review, he says, FNBB seeks to empower the nation, both from the private and public sectors, with information and insights into how the budget allocation will affect them over the next 12 months.

FNBB communications manager, Ms Kemiso Ben says FNBB is excited to host the discussion yet again, and encourage stakeholders to use the opportunity to debate and share their opinions on how policies presented will affect the environment in which they traded. This year, Ms Ben says, "we have increased our reach through Facebook and Twitter where stakeholders can follow live feeds and join the conversation." The release states that the FNBB budget review panel is composed of experts from the public and private sector. The panelists are Rand Merchant Bank currency strategist, Mr John Cairns whose topic is: An overview of the global economy.

Other panelists are FNBB research manager, Mr Moatlhodi Sebabole, who will present on the future of Botswana Economy while the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning's secretary for economic affairs, Dr Taufila Nyamadzabo's topic is the budget implications from slowing SACU receipts and how the Economic Stimulus Programme will affect the fiscal policy implementation."
