Ministry of Trade and Industry has leased a factory shell from Western Industrial Estates to house the food processing plant and work is being done to make it fit for purpose.

Answering a question in Parliament, Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Vincent Seretse said to date, all machinery and equipment needed for the plant operations had been procured and delivered.

He said in addition to that, in August this year two trainee engineers earmarked for process operations, embarked on training in India. Minister Seretse said the two were attached at NFRTC, adding that other relevant key personnel would be recruited in due course.

He said once the ongoing renovations on the factory shell are complete in February 2015, installations, commissioning and testing of the plant would be carried out.

Minister Seretse said all these are anticipated to be completed by March 2015, to allow the plant to be fully operational by April 01, 2015. Western Industrial Estates (PTY) Limited is a subsidiary of Botswana Development Corporation Limited (BDC).

Member of Parliament for Selibe Phikwe West, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse had wanted the minister to appraise the house on the status of the food processing plant in Selibe Phikwe and when it would be fully operational.
